The U.S. District Court for the Central District of California invites applications for the position of Pro Se Staff Attorney. A Pro Se Staff Attorney works under the supervision of United States District and Magistrate Judges. Duties of the position include drafting legal memoranda, reports and recommendations, decisions, and orders. The position also involves analyzing statutes and legal issues in federal habeas corpus, civil rights, and social security disability matters. A Pro Se Staff Attorney works with several judges in multi-week rotations and may work on cases filed in any of the Court’s divisional courthouses. The position has the ability to be fully remote and is scheduled to start as soon as Oct. 1, 2026. Pro Se Staff Attorney positions are subject to available funding, which is dependent upon annual court filings. Judicial Court Services reviews court filings annually to determine funding for the positions, which may lead to “understrength” or “overstrength” in the positions allotted. If the district is in an “overstrength” position, it may require our district to reduce the number of Pro Se Staff Attorney positions.
